Working Structure Fire

At approximately 5:30pm on June 9, 2020, Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Co and mutual aid partners were dispatched to the 100 block of Purnell St for reported smoke coming from the roof of a house. Command 4 (Chief Heiser) arrived on scene, confirming smoke showing from a 2 story, single family dwelling, and established command. Engine 401 arrived on scene, laying a supply line, and stretched a handline to the second floor where they located a small fire in a closet. The fire was quickly extinguished using the initial handline. Ladder 4, Rescue 4, Engine 405, and Brush 4 assisted with overhaul and ventilation, while mutual aid partners stood-by on scene, ready to perform additional duties if required. No extension into other areas of the house were found, and the incident was quickly scaled back. Assisting agencies included Girdletree (300), Stockton (200), Newark (500), Pocomoke (100), Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office, and Snow Hill Police Department. The scene was turned over to the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office for investigation, and all units were available within an hour. The cause of the fire is undetermined as of posting.
